Charulata Mehta - UMHA Volunteer of the Year
Submitted By Karie McDougall on Wednesday, April 25, 2018
The UMHA cannot operate without its volunteers and to recognize the outstanding contributions of our volunteers, each year the UMHA presents an award to an individual who volunteers his or her time and energy for the betterment of the UMHA.  It is with great pleasure that we present this year’s Marzia Del Bianco Volunteer of the Year award to Charulata Mehta in recognition of her tireless efforts in supporting the UMHA.

Charulata’s volunteering career began in 2014 when her daughter started to play in the tyke division and we have not let her go!  If you remember the cereal commercial with Mikey who will eat anything, Charulata is that person who will do anything.  It does not matter what it is, all we have to do was ask and with an “I Dream of Jeannie” attitude it is done!  Whether it be cleaning out and organizing our equipment room, editing our website (looking for grammatical and spelling mistakes) or updating our Bulletin Board at Crosby, it was always done with precision and expertise.

Charulata has also continued to support the UMHA by taking on a convenor role each year since 2014, a role that she takes very seriously and a role that does not go unnoticed.  Her ultimate goal of being a convenor is to ensure that every player on every team has the best experience possible period!  She does this through open communication, working harmoniously with fellow coaches and assistant convenors; and getting to know players, parents, grandparents and siblings on a personal level.

According to Heather Bramer, friend and fellow coach in the Atom division, Charulata helps the UMHA live up to its mission statement – Hockey is for Kids!.  She pours her heart and soul into creating the best environment for the players, one that is informed, organized, safe and enjoyable.  She genuinely cares about each player and their development, regularly celebrating their successes, feeling their struggles and doing what she can to help them succeed.

Charulata, you are a one of a kind volunteer and because of this, we are proud to call you UMHA’s Volunteer of the Year!
