Unionville Jets on Hockey Night in Canada!
Submitted By Voula Bertsoulakis on Tuesday, November 26, 2019
The Unionville Jets Minor Novice Select Team had their television debut on the Nov. 23 edition of Hockey Night In Canada. The team of 2012-born players participated in filming Nov. 17 as participants in the weekly feature, Scotiabank’s Hockey Tonight Kids.

The segment features youth teams from across Canada each week to promote televised games for the following Saturday night. The spot airs nationally between Hockey Night in Canada’s 7 and 10 p.m. game broadcasts.

“They were pretty excited about it,” said head coach John Forte, whose team is sponsored by Scotiabank. “They’re all really into hockey. They all thought it would be a cool experience to be on TV.”

The cameras were rolling during a regularly scheduled practice at Angus Glen Community Centre Arena.

“We’re here for the sport but also to make sure the kids enjoy the game,” said Forte, whose team plays in the York Simcoe Minor Hockey League. “This season is all about having a lot of fun playing hockey. So, we lose half a practice. If something like this gets them to enjoy the game more, it is worth it.”
