Overview (Unionville Minor Hockey Association)

PrintOverview

The Midget/Juvenile division is run by the UMHA and players from both divisions are combined to form teams. Weekly team practices are discontinued, but if ice is available, there may be practices scheduled during the season for interested players from all teams.

General Midget/Juvenile Division Framework

  • Players in this division are evaluated according to ability at skills evaluations held at the start of the season.
  • Teams consisting of players from both the midget and juveniles divisions are created by a computer program so as to be as balanced as possible using the results of these skills evaluations.
  • Games consist of three stop-time periods of 15 minutes each within the 90 minutes of ice time allocated to each game.
  • Full-time goalie positions are available in this division, but cannot be guaranteed. If there are more goalies than teams, goalies must share the position on as many teams as required.
  • There are a number of game times available at the arena for this division each week and each team rotates through the time slots available.

Full-Time Goalie Position

The following is an excerpt from Section 2.2 of the UMHA Coach and Convenor Manual:

“Beginning in the Peewee division, players may choose to become full-time goalies. In divisions where there are players who only want to play goal, the convenor shall ensure that these players are equally distributed among the teams. If there are more goalies than teams, the position must be shared equitably on as many teams as necessary to accommodate all goalies.

A full-time goalie position cannot be guaranteed as it is dependant on the number of players who want to play in net in a division in any given year. The division convenor will allocate goalies on as equitable a basis as possible among teams in the division."
